Meet the Leadership - Chris Weber

Name?

Chris Weber

Are you married? Any kids?

Married to Lisa since 1991. 3 kids – Lauren 16, Gabriel 13, Michael 11. They all attended Veritas Christian Academy, a Christ-honoring classical Christian school that we had the privilege of helping to build.

How did you become a Christian?

Official spiritual birth date is September 29, 1987. Via brokenness in life I went crawling to the God I had heard about but did not know. I was raised in a religious tradition and attended 9 years of that religion’s schools without ever opening a bible. When the time was right, God had a new friend and business associate introduce me to His word and to Him. He then placed me in a tremendous group of single Christians called the “Berean Class” where I was mentored and trained.

How did you get involved with City of Refuge?

We are charter members of the City of Refuge, having been drawn to it seeking a more genuine fellowship. Chris served in the initial group of Elders and both Chris and Lisa continued in joyous participation with the Music Worship Team. During a 2.5 year period, after losing our Music Worship Leader (Michael Sust), Chris filled the role of Music Worship leader and was finally relieved of the position when Russell Thompson answered the call to come and lead us.

What is your role in the leadership of the church?

After serving for the first 7 years of the church’s life, Chris rotated off of the session. A few years ago, during a exciting time of installation of several new Elders, Chris rejoined the active session to be a part of what God was doing. The call was clearly to join in with Pastor Smith in setting the basic foundation for a new season of growth at the City of Refuge.

Favorite Scripture? Why?

NO single favorite. However, a couple that define my approach toward following the Lord are:

..choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve….But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2

Other thoughts / advice / things you would like to share?

During troubled times of the formation of the City of Refuge, I watched as mighty warriors of God left our fellowship and I had no vision for what the Lord’s provision of soldiers could possibly be. I have been genuinely humbled at how He has brought so many well-suited soldiers to our flock beyond what I could ever “ask or imagine”. Now I am joyful at the privilege to be in the midst of it.
